Welcome to the Edge… Visionary Ecological Design

“Permaculture is Visionary”

[Design Science is] the effective application of the principles of science to the conscious design of our total environment in order to help make the Earth's finite resources meet the needs of all humanity* without disrupting the ecological processes of the planet.

--- R. Buckminster Fuller
* I would here subsitute the term "humanity" with "life"

The beauty of ecology (and of the visionary) is that it is so inclusive. This blog will cover more standard visionary ecological design concepts, but will be visionary in its scope as well. Many different topics will be covered under the umbrella of Permaculture; the sacred, the “natural”, the human -- energy, habitation, transportation, art… whatever is exciting, daring, and beautiful. Because thinking in the realm of visionary IS daring. It takes courage to look beyond the now into the realm of possibility. Or to live so in the now that everything is utilized to its fullest potential, like the indigenous forest dwellers, or the ideas of R. Buckminster Fuller.
I welcome input and ideas - suggestions of what others see as visionary. Maybe by sharing these ideas we can help each other to realize some of these visions and save ourselves from the looming and serious problems we face. Maybe we can think and dream our way into a world we can pass down to our children’s children. Thinking ahead Seven Generations as the [Native Americans] strived to do. This is certainly a challenge in our world that is changing so quickly. Our knowledge and sciences are growing at exponential rates now. We need to reach out and play with all of this new information, these new (and rediscovered) technologies and ways of thinking. The cosmos are infinite and we dwell on a single planet with very little (although rapidly expanding) knowledge of our home solar system and galaxy, let alone the greater universe out beyond…

Where would we like to be? What would we like to be doing? It seems to me that the answer to these questions lies in harmony. If all of our endeavors harmonized seamlessly with our environment, we would be happy. We would have peaceful social systems and high technology blended into our natural environment. What would this world look like? How would we get there?

“If success or failure of this planet and of human beings depended on how I am and what I do, how would I be? What would I do?”
-- R. Buckminster Fuller

The upcoming posts will include biographical information to share with you my background in the visionary realm. I'm still pondering how to organize all of the information, but there is much to share: sacred geometry and patterns in nature, animal architecture, underground houses, tree houses, floating cities, ancient technologies, space colonies, utopias, and so much more. Prepare to be blown away and share your ideas!
